@NPT - create your flake with http://snowflakes.lookandfeel.com/ and save the .eps file. Load your flake .eps file into Photoshop and use “Grunge Brushes” to add some grunge feel… then create the PS brush

I just made a digital collage this morning using your snowflakes, stars, beads and magic circles. It's all layered up so it's kind of hard to tell them apart, but I think they work well. I'll be using them a lot. I posted it on a couple of my blogs and will be putting it up on Flickr with attribution, of course. Links to blogs below.
