My new blogs

November 10, 2007 |  by bsilvia  |  Announcements  |  , , , ,  |  1 Comment

Two days ago I bought 2 domain names, one is my “user name” bsilvia.com and the other is blogffiliate.com.

So, now I have to combine my work in microstock agencies with my new domain name and try to get some visitors on my bsilvia.com.

blogffiliate.com blog will contain useful info for new bloggers but also for other bloggers who are in need of new graphics, buttons, banners – you know, stuff I’m creating :)

Happy thoughts!

Latest news: yesterday I bought 2 domain names, one is my “user name”- bsilvia (bsilvia.com) and the other is “blogffiliate.com”. Webhosting at siteground.com as usual, I’ve been their customer for 6 years and never had any problems or issues. So I’m sticking with them.

Maybe I’ll transfer this one to new domain “bsilvia.com”, so wish me luck with my new blogs (I’m gonna need it)!

How to draw swirls illustrations in Adobe Illustrator, Part One

November 7, 2007 |  by bsilvia  |  Tutorials  |  , , , , ,  |  11 Comments

I received several inquiries on how to draw a swirls illustration. Swirls illustration does not require extensive knowledge, only a little practice and a visit of a “Muse”.

One of the problems that beginners face when entering the world of adobe illustrator is proper positioning of the vector control points.

For starters, my advice is to make a circle (use Elipse tool+Shift combination). Select the circle using “Direct SelectionTool”, four basic points and vector controllers (red extension lines).

Draw using “Pencil tool” and practice making various swirls. This is just for practice, we are not making any swirls there, but it is important to play with handles here and try to create some shape for the practice purposes.

Play with “Pencil Tool Preferences”, see how they affect the drawing.

Now, take it to the next step and make a simple “swirl” shape. Something like this:

Then make it’s inner (or outer) outline following the existing line. Connect outer and inner line in order to get closed shape: select two starting points and to Object -> Path -> Join. Do the same with two ending points. Reduce or add points using “Pen Tool” in order to fine tune the swirl shape.

Color the swirl and store it as a Brush or a Symbol. Make a small database of various shapes that will later be used for drawing Swirls Illustrations, like mine “Adobe Illustrator Swirls Symbols”Subscribe to my newslwtter and download them for free

Christmas card – Photoshop tutorial

Create a new file 5″ x 7” at 300pix/inch in RGB mode. Color the background layer with a blue linear gradient.

Christmas card - Photoshop tutorial

Draw some basic tree shape or use my “tree.eps“. Place the “tree.eps” as “smart object”.

Christmas card - Photoshop tutorial

Copy it (CTRL+J on PC or Cmd+J on Mac) as much as you want – resize it and plant it all over your Christmas card.

Christmas card - Photoshop tutorial

You can resize it freely because it’s vector format and it will not loose a bit on quality.

Christmas card - Photoshop tutorial

Color them in different tones of white and blue to create an illusion of depth, 3rd dimension.

Christmas card - Photoshop tutorial

Create a new layer (CTRL+Shift+N on PC or Cmd+Shift+N on Mac), use snowflake brush from brush set “Grunge Snowflakes Brush” – spread snowflakes in different sizes all over the background.

Christmas card - Photoshop tutorial

Color the layer with the snowflakes with “Gradient Overlay” from white to approx 45% of cyan.

Christmas card - Photoshop tutorial

Now you can write “Merry Christmas” or “Happy New Year” and Christmas card is finished!

… or if you don’t feel like going through all this but would like to use this file for your needs – download the original file for less than $1 :)
