Non-violence & Non-violence PS brushes & Vectors

Dear all,

I don’t know how many of you know, but 2nd of October is UN Non-violence day. And I fully support the idea. I think we all should help raising public awareness of that problem. Unfortunately, today, violence is all around us and we should all condemn it.

So, let’s unite our thoughts and take non-violent action to condemn violence. Non-violent action in Ghandi’s way (2nd of October was Mahatma Ghandi’s birthday) as he inspired movements for civil rights and freedom across the world.

One of the things I can do is to offer you free Photoshop brushes and vectors on the topic.

So, I prepared this Peace Photoshop Brushes set and Vector illustrations set – in one download file! 13 peace symbols: dove, peace sign, olive branches … and similar.

I hope you will like it.

Using Photoshop Brushes in Web Design

Using Photoshop Brushes in Web Design

September 27, 2008 |  by bsilvia  |  Image Gallery, Photoshop Brushes  |  1 Comment

WP Theme Image on the left is the original. And my blog (graphics-illustrations.com) is the re-vamped version of it.

Today, I was thinking about showing you how Photoshop brushes can be used in web design. To be more specific in web re-design. Or to be even more, like, truly specific, in re-design of a WordPress theme.

So, since I never was much of a programmer I figured I’d find some WordPress theme that at least resembles me of something that I might wanna use for my blog and then just fine-tune it until I get what I want.

And that’s what I did. This is the original theme. The name of the theme was “Waters edge” and this little thumbnail on top represents what it looked like when I downloaded it.

AndĀ  this blog is what this theme looks like after the re-vamp.

So, let’s go and explain in more detail. Here is what brushes I used in order to re-design the existing WordPress theme and turn it into something new.

Using Photoshop brushes in web design

In this area I used the Photoshop Brush – Floral DUO (62)

In this area I used the Hearts Photoshop Brushes Set, 32

In this area I used the Swirls Floral brushes set, 42

In this area I used LITE FREE edition (available for download after joining GBG community) of following brushes:

1. Stickers
2. Custom brushes (brushes strokes)
3. Splatters (or Splatters and dripping ink)
4. Grunge stars

And voila!

One more example of Photoshop brushes usage. This time in WordPress design. I hope you liked it and that it will give you a piece of inspiration for your own work.

Have fun creating!

Gang!

Since I know many of you are, one way or another, involved into weddings whether it be as a friends, family or wedding photographers it is always nice to have some cool photos from the occasion. So, I thought I’d show you how to decorate a wedding photo with Photoshop brushes.

In this particular example we used two different brushes from two different brushes sets:

  1. Swirls 2, Photoshop brushes set (36)
  2. Photoshop Brushes – Floral Shapes (37)

Here is the final outcome:

Wedding Photography

And here is how we got there.

1. Load a plain photo in Photoshop
2. Load first brushes set, in this case Swirls 2, Photoshop brushes set, 36

(Click here if you need to find out how to load and use brushes into Photoshop->)

Wedding Photography

2. Place the first brush on the photo like this:

3. Load second brushes set, in this case Photoshop Brushes – Floral Shapes (37)

Wedding Photography

4. Place that second brush it on the top of the first one so that it creates one new shape

(Find out how to color the brush ->)

Wedding Photography

5. Now, the time has come to color the right part of the image. First we need to make a selection, to do that – use Polygonal Lasso Tool (L)

Wedding Photography

6. Close the path: join beginning and the ending points

Wedding Photography

7. Click on Gradient Tool (G). Now click and on the gradient itself (upper left corner) and adjust the colors until you get something like this (or whatever look you prefer)

Wedding Photography

8. Drag the gradient with the mouse from upper left corner to the bottom right corner

Wedding Photography

9. Add some drop shadow on the first brush to enhance the visual effect. Double click on the layer thumbnail to get the “Layer style Pop-Up window”, checkmark the Drop Shadow box.

Wedding Photography

10. Adjust the drop shadow settings like this

And voila!

Add text and here is our newly decorated wedding photo!

I hope you liked it! I tried to make it as simple as possible but if there are some steps that are not completely clear please let me know.

Love,
Silvia

Today I was on a one day trip to the Island of Krk in Croatia.

As usual, took my camera with me – just in case the light is good. And it was. The wind was strong and it was cloudy but the light was, somehow, magical. Could not miss the opportunity.

So, my dear visitors, here they are, fresh photos from Island of Krk in Croatia and if you like them just click on any of them and it will take you to my other site where there are many more if them.

How I Designed a Trade Show Booth With Zero Investment

How I Designed a Trade Show Booth With Zero Investment

September 20, 2008 |  by bsilvia  |  Image Gallery  |  2 Comments

… And how Photoshop brushes helped.

Of course, each article I make here has to do something with Photoshop brushes.

But, this article is about woman entrepreneurship, friendship and helping each other when times get rough.

So, this friend of mine, Susan, mother of two, married to a working man decided that she will not abandon her dream of having her own business just because she doesn’t have initial capital and no business partner to help her out. Initiative and courageĀ  – no doubt about that. Susan decided that she wants to produce pantyhose. So, she picked up all the savings she got, bought a machine a started a Lorien pantyhose&socks production.

There is one thing in life that comes almost as a rule. When people see how much passion, energy, sacrifice and persistence you are putting onto following your dream – they will, spontaneously, find them selves trying to figure out different ways to help.

And this is what happened to Susan. She was offered few square meters for booth on one international trade show for free! Sounds good – eh? Still, after investing into production machinery she had almost nothing left and the question was – how to equip that space and create a proper booth with no money at all?

So, we sat at my place, trying to figure out a way to do that when I looked around and realized that furniture in my apartment could just make a good start. It’s kinda antique furniture bought as a second hand at various antique furniture trade shows so I figured – the heck, why not?

A friend of hers had a van so no money down for transportation either and that’s it.

So, where do Photoshop brushes come in you’d ask?

Well, a year ago I had a photo sessions (click here to view – images from first photo session and images from second photo session) with a friend of ours as a model with her stockings on. Since Susan had no panels or posters I thought I’d use these images, decorate them with Photoshop brushes print them and apply to wood.

Woila! Here is how it came out at the trade show:

Can not really compare those with some high budget booths from big companies, but I think we did a pretty good job here. Especially knowing we did it with no money down whatsoever.

So, the moral of the story is:
If you have a dream just start working on it. Your passion will motivate people around to help out you and then no obstacle is too big and no wall to high.

Until next post, stay well and have fun creating!

Love,
Silvia

P.S.
Next time I will show you how to make brushes out of garlic. Yes, you heard (ok, read) it right. Garlic:)

Using Photoshop Brushes in Photography

Using Photoshop Brushes in Photography

September 9, 2008 |  by bsilvia  |  Image Gallery  |  No Comments

Gang!

This time I thought I’d show you some of the examples of usage of Photoshop brushes in photography. And what better example I can give other then the ones I made myself (but of course :))

So, here is some stuff I created with a little help from Photoshop brushes and you will notice how they can add on that “final touch” to the photo images very nicely. This brush touch-up is sometimes the perfect finish that I’m looking for when creating not just digital but also tangible works like photos that I apply on the wood, hand-made notebooks and scrap-books, bookmarks etc…

So, for instance, in this example, I used Photoshop brush to touch-up on one of my photos that I printed out on canvas and applied to the piece of wood that I previously carved, burnt and painted (also drilled some holes, added a piece of rope and a red seal with my emblem).

So, I added this Photoshop brush Floral Swirl, which is on sale now in my little shop: 101 Swirls Brushes – Special Edition package (101 brushes set)

Using Photoshop Brushes in Photography

I placed it to the bottom left corner just to add on some touch of natural and rustic feel to the image. And I think it fits there just perfectly.

OK Gang, that’s it for now. I have a bunch of other real life, hard on, brick and mortar, wood and paper examples of Photoshop brushes usage, so stay tuned :)

Using Photoshop Brushes in Photography

Love,
Silvia

P.S.

By the way, how do you like my little hand crafted piece of art? Believe me, it takes a while to complete something like this when you do it from scratch (like I did). But, it’s worth it. These are sellin’ quite fine and I’m happy for that :) I still don’t know how to call it. It is a photo I made printed out on canvas and applied to a piece of wood that I previously carved, burnt, painted and drilled … added a seal and stuff … :)

P.P.S.

Of course, we all know how much Photoshop brushes can add-up to productivity, speed-up the process of graphic creation and make designers life easier. So, check out my latest offer 24 HiRes brushes for 1/2 the price.
