Postcards, are they history?

January 7, 2009  |  by bsilvia  |  Image Gallery  |  5 comments

Holiday greetings season is behind us. Many of you probably still remember the times when our mailboxes (I mean the real, metal or wooden ones) used to be filled in with postcards. In my opinion, no eCard can match a good old fashioned postcard. It’s just that good old piece of paper and handwriting that adds a special  human touch that no electronic mail can have.

So, thanks to Gordeee, impressive but mysterious artist, we can now show you some really really cool postcards. His current theme is Paris :). Some of the graphical elements he used are Grunge Floral Shapes Photoshop Brushes (free download after joining GBG)

Postcards, are they history?

Postcards, are they history?

These are really beautiful! Great work Gordeee and thank you for sharing it with us!

And now, since we’re talking about cards, I just couldn’t help mentioning one New Year postcard (old fashioned one) we got from my cousin Davor Vrankic and his wife Silva (yes it’s similar to my name but it’s not the same :)). This one was drawn by Davor himself! (find out more about Davor Vrankic who is a great painter – artist ->) … also, I already wrote about him and his success in the world of art here ->)

So, here’s the unique Holiday postcard from my cousin:

Postcards, are they history?

I bet you like it! He’s good isn’t he :)

I just can’t think of a better way to show a sign of appreciation other than do something with your own hands. I know, Davor is a real talent, but that is not the point here. The point is to take some time and dedicate it to someone by creating something with your own hands. That is the point.

Thank you Gordee and thank you Davor for your great works!

Yours,

Silvia

P.S.

Just before the end of the year I dispatched the last 2008 Green Bulb Gang eZine.

It was a compilation I called:

The best of free Green Bulb Gang downloads (Photoshop brushes); 2008.

It contained a link to one Green Bulb Gang web page that contained a number of links for best free Green Bulb Gang free Photoshop brushes of 2008.

These were only available to Green Bulb Gang members.

But, then on it turned out that the web page with download links did not work when accessed with Safari browser from Mac platform. I’ve got no clue why. I am so sorry guys!

I already sent emails with workaround instructions to all of you who reported that. (The workaround was: Firefox.)

I would test it before dispatching but I could not because I still did not save enough to get that Mac.

So, if you want to help me out AND get yourself a Collection of 800+ Photoshop brushes with Commercial license included (and we all know WHAT THAT MEANS :) ), please feel free to visit the 800+ Photoshop brushes MEGA pack page -> and check it out for yourself! (These are not free, but they’re worth every cent AND they come with a lifetime 1/2 price warranty!)

P.P.S.
If you are interested in the link to 2008 Best of Free Photoshop brushes Compilation page – it is not just for Green Bulb Gang members but also for all MEGA Package owners (although most of them are GBG members anyway :))

Guys and gals,

Just a small post about this years Christmas Fair, Susanne and myself. As my old visitors already know, this year the Artists Society selected me along with some 20 artists who are allowed to set up their own “cabin” at this years Christmas Fair.

So, we did it!

I am selling my own stuff like, photos on wood, diaries, wooden candle holders and Susanne sells her socks and pantyhose.

And here are some images (taken late at night):

Holiday Gift Tags – Free Download

December 15, 2008  |  by bsilvia  |  Free Downloads, Image Gallery  |  5 comments

Yep, I’m all in Christmas atmosphere, giving giving giving … :)

While my little Poofitza sleeps behind the computer screen only her tail, lurking from behind, gives away her presence and I’m thinking about this years Christmas presents for my family.

It was always like this, our (wider) family gets together each year for Christmas. A Christmas tree, 15-20 family members, specially arranged dinner table, many good looking and even better tasting sweets and of course: many many presents under the Christmas tree.

Well, for last few years I thought a little about all these presents… and I realized that I should probably abandon old traditional approach and do something completely different this year. So, I decided: this year I will donate all of our Christmas presents budget to the SOS Children’s Village! And children will make 20 drawings for my family members with Christmas greetings! So, in Christmas spirit we will donate to the ones in need, our family members will get Christmas drawings and everyone will be happy. I’ll post some of the drawings, as soon as I get them in Thursday.

HoHoHo!

And, here is a little something for YOU! Yes you, the one who reads this :))!

8 Christmas Gift Tags

In Christmas spirit, what better DIY idea can you have? These tags are specially made for Christmas gifts, what can I say, “Original by bsilvia” :) just add names and  -voila! Of course, the more you play with them – the better, you can add more brushes, for instance. Or, you don’t have to, you can print them out as they are and just add names on the printout.

OK Enough talking, here they are

Holiday Gift Tags Free Download

And, in case you’d like to know what I used to create these tags, here is the list (recipe :)):

Print them, cut them out, use them on your presents and most of all  – have fun!

The End of The “Becky” Story

December 14, 2008  |  by bsilvia  |  Photoshop Brushes  |  13 comments

Guys,
Fist, I want to let you know how much I appreciate the support you’ve given me after someone called “Becky” attacked me heavily, calling me names and using vulgar words just because she had issues navigating through my blog. As she promised (if it is “she”  – I can’t really know), she downloaded most of the free files (mostly Photoshop brushes) from my blog and uploaded them on 4shared.com.

Thank you Joanne for letting me know. I already reported that.

So, of course, I felt hurt and pissed after I heard about it. I believe you would feel the same. If someone takes your work and offers it to the world as their own, it would piss anyone, right?

But then I gave it a second thought. I realized that I can not really hate that person. On the contrary, I felt kinda pity for her. She did not really hurt me by doing that.

How come?

Well, for one, I did feel distressed for a while, but I could not withstand negative emotions for too long. They start to hurt the one who retains them. “Becky”, obviously, retained negative emotions for a long time since she took the effort to do all this downloading and then uploading to that 4shared.com site. Her negative emotions made damage to her, not to me. It’s pure physics.

Secondly, people who use stolen intellectual property are people who don’t know how to make nice and beautiful things, it just doesn’t go together. Why? Well, if you steal it means that you have rotten mind, if you have rotten mind you can not create nice and useful things. And that’s it, plain and simple. That’s how things work.

And, in the end, I believe that this whole thing made me a better person. I learned something about myself and I am happy about what I found out. I found out that I can not withhold negative emotions for long. I found out that I can remain positive and not hate even when something is stolen from me.

In addition, through all this support I was receiving since this happened, I learned that there are much much more good people than bad ones. I learned that there are many people who appreciate my work and that is THE BIGGEST REWARD OF THEM ALL! So, all this filled me up with positive emotions, enthusiasm and optimism about the “Life, universe and everything” (You gotta read that book if you haven’t done so already).

I truly hope that “Becky” person will realize that she(or he – again) only hurt herself in the end. Not anyone else. With the feeling of hate and all other negative emotions she’s overwhelmed with, she just did damage to herself.

So, the moral of the story is: When the going gets tough, find the power to remain positive and loving person no matter what. We all knew that from before, but sometimes it’s good to be reminded.

And this is the end of the “Becky story”.

I promise to come up with nicer stories for as we look forward to Christmas and the New Year of 2009.

Love you all,

Silvia
