Software review: Batch Photo PRO

Guys,

You know what’s the good thing about having a blog with so many daily visitors (approx. 3000 in my case)? Although this blog is mainly about photoshop brushes, every now and then you get approached by various companies and they ask you to make a software review for them, in exchange you get a free copy of the software.

I know, you didn’t notice much software reviews on my site. That’s because I don’t want to review software that will not be interesting to my visitors. I mean most of you are here because you are, one way or another, into visual arts. Being it graphic design, web design, scrap booking or photography.

So, you guessed, I received an email the other day (ok, of Friday to be more precise) where a group of young Romanian developers asked me to make a honest review of their software called Batch Photo which they present as “The fastest photo editor”.

“OK” I said “Tell me one thing. Will I be able to select, like, hundreds of RAW files from my photo camera and transform them to my hard disk re-sized and in .jpg format?” I asked that because that’s just what I need to when I shoot some social event and I need to distribute small .jpg’s fast.

And they said “Yes. Here is your copy. Try it. And speak freely about your impressions”

“OK. I’ll do just that”

And here we go …

You know, I value the quality of the software by my ability to work with it without reading the manual. I don’t know about you, but I am not very patient when it comes to gaining knowledge about new software that I am about to use. This peace of software was not different. I wanted to do my stuff without reading any manuals, or FAQ’s or watching videos. It had to be intuitive and easy to use.

Installation was quite simple and straight forward (standard clicking on “Yes”, “Yes”, “Next”, “Next” and stuff …) and it was installed and up and running in no time.
Then I inserted the CF card from my Canon 20D in to the card reader and started the software.

Clicked on Add Photos.
Selected all 135 photos in CR2 format (which is RAW format of my beloved Canon 20D) and pressed NEXT.

At this stage I had to “Add filter” and select “Resize Advanced”, now that gave me the option to make all of the photos 800 x 525, then I pressed Next again. Select the format, and the quality …

Then I select thed the output folder, file format and the quality …

And clicked on “Process” …

It detected my 4 Cores CPU and I apperciated the fact that it reported a launch 4 threads. That should speed up the things.

And, voila! After 5minutes and 42 seconds 135 RAW images (CR2 Canon raw format) of 3596px x 2360px were converted into 800px x 525px in jpg format.

Nice, smooth and easy. There was a whole bunch of other effects or adjustments I could have done, here are some of them

Of course, for all details and free trial you are welcome to visit http://www.batchphoto.com/ and give this software a try.

I’d say it’s a perfect choice for situations like “OMG, I just came from this kids birthday party with, like 200 images in RAW format and now I need to get them real small in jpg and they need to be sharpened out and satrutation needs to be a bit increased and it just has to be done in no time.” If it sounds familiar then this Image Converter Software is for you.

OK. I hope this post was useful for you. If not still stay tuned as I will come up with some new free downloads from my little graphical factory. Until then, stay well and have fun creating!

Love!

Silvia
