I really like decoupage technique. Did you know that this technique started really early, and can be found in East Siberian tombs dated 300BC? I didn’t know that either… Of course, artisans in Italy, Florence, perfected the technique in 17th century and since then traditional decoupage technique consist of 30 to 40 layers of varnish. Oh, my!

I tried something new with my digital brushes – something like chair decoupage

Those cat heads are cats that are (or were) up for an adoption. I took the photos of all of them and then created the PS brushes. (Cat Heads Photoshop Brushes can be downloaded here) Then, I printed the brushes onto tissue paper. If you don’t know how, here’s the one of the many tutorials that can be find on the Internet: How to print on tissue paper tutorial

Of course, as always we we make something for the first time,  I made a few mistakes too. First, I printed the cat heads on edges of the tissue paper  – bad idea, because the decoupage made straight lines right in the middle of the seat. OK, now I know.

Second, I didn’t use the Mod Podge to glue the tissue paper, I used the acrylic varnish instead. That was a mistake, because varnish crumpled tissue paper.

Well, today I added 7th layer of varnish and I think I’ll go all the way to the end – to the 30th layer and then I’ll see if I can “smooth-up” the crumpled tissue paper 🙂

All in all, my first decoupage item is done 🙂

In the meantime, as I said, I decided to share the cat brushes with you guys. This is a free download and you can use it for your commercial projects too.
