Did you hear about Henry David Thoreau? He was a truly remarkable man. At least in my humble opinion. Why? Because he did not just speak about freedom, he actually lived as a truly free man.

He was born in Massachusetts in 1817. and one of his most remarkable books is the one called Walden. You see, at some point of his life (he graduated at Harvard, but refused to pay $5 for his diploma btw.) he decided to live in wilderness, by nature and try to survive with whatever he could get from earth, woods and the lake. He had almost no money. Just enough to buy some of the basic stuff for his shack which he built with his own hands on the lake called Walden. He wrote about his life in wilderness in his book Walden. (You can get this book for free on Kindle).

This is how he explained his move to solitude in the wilderness:

“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. “

As you may have imagined by now, I was really impressed with a book and the philosophy behind. I truly recommend it. Also, it inspired me to make this little graphic:

Having done that, I figured why not make a poster

And a notebook cover

All in all, I am truly fascinated with this man as it seems to me that we are both asking the same questions about existence in this time and space. People like him make me feel that I am not alone in this world asking these kind of questions and looking for answers. Somehow, I believe that at least some if you, reading this, are members of this club.

Well, I guess this is all for this post. I hope that you will be inspired to take a deeper look into the works of Henry David Thoreau, enjoy his books and maybe even use this notebook with his words of inspiration to write down your own thoughts or  make drawings or just put in it whatever is on your mind.

Keep calm and stay creative 🙂

Love you all,

Silvia
