Sometimes it’s hard to get started on a project. You’re excited about the excellent brushes you just purchased and are eager to try them out, but what to do?
Here are some tips for using Photoshop brushes to make a beautiful keepsake page for a baby, be it your own or a friend’s.
Use the brushes like stamps to create a border.
Layering brushes is a great way to make an abstract background for your page.
If you put the brush on a new layer in Photoshop and apply a layer style like a drop shadow, it can appear that the brush is actually a sticker! Put a thin white stroke around it to make it look even more like a sticker.
Make epoxy stickers, too, with layer styles and brushes as the background artwork. You’ll have to experiment a bit, but try starting out with the following layer styles.
Try adjusting the drop shadow effects to get a different look. It’s probably best to use the Global Light so that all the shadows are facing the proper direction.
Get a vellum effect by using a Pattern Overlay Layer Style set to Stucco 4, with a blend mode of Overlay and decrease the opacity to 30-50% depending on the desired effect.
Including slight drop shadows on some of your elements will help them stand out against the background. Just don’t overdo it!
For this page, I used the elegant Swirled Frames and the really trendy Hearts Brushes. Both of these can be used to make great background papers, stamps, stickers and patterns for your pages!
