The Beginning of My Nightly Adventure in Bruges
I kicked off my nighttime walks around Bruges in November. The air was crisp, and the streets had this magical glow as if the city itself was alive, whispering stories of centuries past. My goal? Just to enjoy the views and maybe stumble upon a corner where light and shadow played a delightful game of hide and seek.
But something unexpected happened. These views were too stunning to keep to myself. That’s when I decided to start capturing them. And not just any way – I decided to create black-and-white photographs using my trusty mobile phone.
Why Black and White Photography?
There’s something timeless about black-and-white images. They strip away the distraction of color, leaving you with the raw emotion of the scene. When I’m walking the quiet streets in Bruges, I feel like the monochrome style perfectly captures the city’s elegance and mystery.
Sure, I could use a big, fancy camera (and sometimes I do). But honestly, my mobile phone feels like a secret weapon. It’s small, discreet, and doesn’t scream, “Hey, I’m taking a professional photo here!” People feel more relaxed around it, which is perfect for those candid shots when someone accidentally wanders into the frame – or doesn’t even realize they’re in it!
Gathering the Perfect Shots
Night after night, I wandered the streets, snapping photos of moonlit canals, ancient cobblestones, and the soft glow of streetlights reflecting in the water. Each walk felt like a treasure hunt. I wasn’t just gathering photos; I was collecting memories.
One evening, I stumbled upon a scene so perfect it almost felt staged – a canal mirroring the moonlight like a dream. I knew instantly that this shot needed to be shared. I uploaded it to my Redbubble shop, where it became part of a collection I call Night in Bruges.
Sharing My Work
I started with one image – Moonlit Reflections in Bruges. It’s available as an art print, a framed art print, and a photographic print. Between us, the framed art print is my favorite. I love how the black frame and black passepartout elevate the photo, giving it a polished and dramatic look.
But that’s not where it ends! I also created an album page called “Night in Bruges” on my photography website, alongside my beloved “Doors” album. This is where I’ll continue sharing my latest adventures in Bruges, one black-and-white masterpiece at a time.
What Makes Bruges So Magical at Night?
Bruges transforms after sunset. The crowds thin (except in the “Winter Gloed” time), the city slows down, and the lights reflect on the canals like shimmering ribbons. It’s like stepping into a fairy tale, only better because it’s real.
The best part? No two nights are ever the same. The light changes depending on the weather, the moon’s position, and even the time of year. Sometimes the streets are cloaked in fog, adding an eerie touch. Other nights, the reflections are so sharp you’d swear you’re looking at a mirror.
Want to Join My Journey?
If you’re as captivated by Bruges as I am, I’d love for you to follow along. I regularly post updates on X (formerly Twitter), and of course, my photography website is always buzzing with new images. Who knows? Maybe you’ll find your next favorite art print there.
And don’t worry – I’ll keep sharing my adventures here too. Whether it’s a new corner of Bruges or a unique way the moonlight hits a canal, I promise to keep the magic alive.
Why You Should Try Night Photography in Bruges
If you’re ever in Bruges, I highly recommend trying your hand at night photography. You don’t need fancy equipment – just a phone and a good eye for details. Look for interesting reflections, play with shadows, and don’t be afraid to experiment.
Bruges has this incredible way of making every photo look like a work of art. Trust me, it’s impossible to take a bad picture here. And who knows? You might even discover a hidden talent for photography!
Night Walks
My nightly walks in Bruges started as a way to unwind, but they’ve turned into something much more – a creative journey that I’m thrilled to share with you. Whether you’re a fellow photographer, an art enthusiast, or just someone who loves a good story, I hope my black-and-white images bring a little bit of Bruges magic into your life.
So, what are you waiting for? Grab a camera (or your phone) and start exploring! And don’t forget to stop by my Redbubble shop or photography website to see the latest additions to my Night in Bruges collection.
Let’s keep the adventure going, one photo at a time.
